I know. Another design-whatever made to look like a skull. Sure, I was unimpressed at first, but then I kept looking. Not only are all the states here and geographically correct, they are also in scale with each other. Look at it a while, its cool.
This is depressing, so many opportunities to get this right and truly be the iconic brand they obviously want to be. 1898 a little crazy and ornate, tough to replicate. 1905 a little change (cleaner). 1906, what happened, just one year since the last update!?!? Oh wait, 1940, nailed it…ICONIC, looks kinda like Coke (done and done). 1950, couldn’t stand it, Coke is still number one. We have got to fuck this logo up, lets show the iconic logo on a mundane bottle cap and call that a new logo. 1963, don’t admit that the BOTTLE CAP was the fucking issue, drop the iconic mark…keep the bottle cap and just type our name over the top of it randomly. So that experiment goes terribly wrong… but despite their best attempts to create utter design garbage. The process leads to 1972, the best of them all. The iconic 1972 design is when the Pepsi Brand meant something. No need to worry about the rapid downward spiral of the logo after 1972. The designers that participated in any of the design tragedies from 1991 on should lose their design license. The design community as a whole should stand up and force Pepsi to dust off the 1972 design, clean it up a touch and run with it. From that day forward, never to look back. If Pepsi has a soul, they should use the logo that showed it.
Ugh, wish I did this.
